Big Brother to be axed

Big Brother host Davina McCall has admitted that the once-thriving show will be axed soon.

The Channel 4 reality show's figurehead has predicted that next year will be the last-ever series.

McCall, who is, however, returning to host BB10 on June 4, admitted to The Sun: "It's definitely only got two years left."

Channel 4's three-year 180million deal will expire next year and critics have shied away from promoting it, while viewer ratings steadily plummet year by year.

Last year's Big Brother final garnered the lowest audience out of the show's nine years, with a peak of 5.1million viewers watching Rachel Rice's triumph over her housemates.

McCall has been the show's host since its launch in 2000 and is believed to be looking for different work. She is tipped as a contender for the This Morning slot on ITV after Fern Britton's departure.

The Big Brother host added: "It's become an institution the summer is all about Big Brother, just like winter is all about the X Factor".

Contestants for the new Big Brother series are still being selected and for the first time, the show will not be streamed live from the house in Elstree.

C4 also plans to show a tribute to Big Brother 3 star Jade Goody, with E4 screening a documentary about her before the new series starts.
