Beyonce Knowles teams up with United Nations for World Humanitarian Day

Beyonce Knowles hopes that her 2011 song I Was Here will become a new anthem for world peace after she performed the song at the United Nations General Assembly held in New York earlier in August this year. 

 

The singer dedicated the song, which is on her album 4, to the World Humanitarian Day held on August 19.

 

In support for the event, Beyonce sat down with US TV host Anderson Cooper and told him that she hopes the song will leave a lasting positive impact on the world.

 

She explained: “It says, ‘I want to leave my footprints in the sands of time’ and it basically is all of our dreams, I think. And that’s leaving our mark on the world.” Beyonce hopes that her song would help her do exactly that. 

 

She also added: “It feels so wonderful to do something for someone else. And I think for the U.N. to want to include the whole world was something important, and I feel like that’s what I represent.”

 

Valerie Amos, under-secretary-general and emergency relief coordinator, joined Beyonce during the TV interview. Amos said that the United Nations’ partnership with Beyonce is ‘really about saying to everyone out there that this is a day that’s both a commemoration because there are a lot of people who lose their lives trying to help people. But it’s also a celebration of the things that people do.”

 

The singer has donated the proceeds of her track I Was Here to the World Humanitarian Day.
