William Shatner is lining up a new Star Trek role.

William Shatner is being lined up to make an appearance in the Star Trek spin off, Enterprise.

The actor has confirmed that negotiations are under way but no deal has yet been signed.

The hit show, staring Scott Bakula, follows the crew of the Enterprise as they make their first tentative steps into outer space.

Enterprise is set before Shatner's character, Captain James T Kirk, is even born, so his cameo appearance could see him play a completely unrelated role.

The original Star Trek, which made Shatner and Kirk household names, was aired between 1966 and 1969.

He also starred in seven Star Trek movies between 1979 and 1994.

Enterprise is currently showing on Sky One.
