BBC Three has revealed its new logo online ahead of its February 16 switchover date.
The new logo features two white bars and an exclamation mark on a pink background. It was criticised on Twitter with people saying that it seems to say BBC 2! in Roman numerals.
Nikki Carr, BBC Three’s head of marketing, said that she was not worried about people’s reactions to the new logo. She said: "Some people are resistant to change and we wanted to be bold and create something that looks forward and will be around for years to come.”
She added that the logo needed to work both on TV and as an app icon, saying: “Look at Snapchat. They’re doing okay without having Snapchat in their logo.”
She then explained the idea behind the logo’s design. Referring to the bars, she said: "The first is 'make me think'... The second is 'make me laugh'... The third, the exclamation mark, is 'give me a voice', which is what we will do for young people.”
Ms Carr added that BBC will collaborate with 50 young creative people and will make them part of the decision making process when choosing the content’s for the channel.
