'Detective Comics #27' has become the most expensive comic in history.
At an auction in Dallas, America the book fetches a ceiling price of $1.075m (£655,00).
The book marks the first ever appearance of the caped crusader batman.
Only a few day before, a comic featuring Superman's debut set a new record when it was sold for $1m.
But the winning bid for 'Detective Comics #27' trumped the accolade.
Both titles were puvblished by DC Comics in the 1930s.
"It pretty much blew away all of our expectations," said Barry Sandoval of Heritage, who auctioned the item.
"We can really say that Batman has nosed out Superman, at least for now."
An anonymous seller, who bought the mint condition comic in the 1960s for only $100 (£65), is sure to be happy with the record-breaking outcome.
