Banned male driver admits to tandem deaths

A married couple were killed by a car near Bristol while riding a tandem bike

A man has pleaded guilty in court to the deaths of two people who were hit by a car while riding a tandem bike earlier this year. Nicholas Lovell, who is 38 years old, has pleaded guilty to two offenses of causing death by dangerous driving.

The man, who was banned from driving at the time of the tragic incident, also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified. He appeared at Bristol Crown Court.

Reportedly, the car he was driving collided with another vehicle before hitting the tandem bike which the married couple were on. Ross Simons, aged 34, and Clare Simons, 30, died on January 27th.

A female named as Louise Cox has admitted to perverting the course of justice as it is understood she owned the vehicle that Mr. Lovell had been driving.

Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Williams, of Avon and Somerset Police, has said: “While these pleas will never bring Ross and Clare back, I hope they go some way to providing comfort for their families.”

It is understood Mr. Lovell has been remanded in custody and Ms. Cox has been released on bail until sentencing takes place. This is expected to take place in May.
