Silent movie, The Artist has topped this yearÂ’s BAFTA nominations with a staggering 12 nominations, including Best Director and Best Film.
The show's stars, Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo, are also battling for the Best Actor and Best Actress awards.
Bejo will compete against Meryl Streep for her role in The Iron Lady and Michelle Williams for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the film My Week With Marilyn, whereas Dujardin will take on George Clooney, Gary Oldman and Brad Pitt, amongst the other Best actor Hopefuls.
Cold War-era spy movie, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy follows closely, earning 11 nominations and going head-to-head with The Descendants, Drive and The Help for the title of Best Film.
Martin ScorseseÂ’s Hugo has a huge nine nominations including the Best Director award. Scorsese is also in the running for the best documentary award for George Harrison: Living in the Material World.
Recent release, War Horse, has bagged five of the nominations despite only being in cinemas a few days, but most are in technical categories.
The awards ceremony will be held in London on 12 February and is set to be hosted by Stephen Fry.
