We all know the first rule of avoiding hangover – eat something before you drink. However, with party season now in full swing, getting meals before drinking can be difficult especially when time is tight after work.
Nutritionist Rob Hobson, head of Healthspan Nutrition, reveals the meals to minimise the effects of hangover. He suggested chicken stir-fry as poultry and vegetables, such as peppers and broccoli, are rich in vitamin B6, which is depleted by drinking alcohol. You may also add in some dark vegetables such as kale that helps the liver remove toxin from the body the day after a heavy drinking session.
Before heading out for a drink, you may also load on rye bread and scramble eggs that should keep you fuller for longer throughout the night. Guacamole with wholemeal pitta bread is also a great option and will give you plenty of healthy fats that take longer to be digested. This means that your blood sugar levels will not easily drop, preventing a nasty hangover in the process.
If you do not have enough time to prepare your meal, one of your super-quick options is oat and banana smoothie. Simple combine oats, milk, banana, and a little honey and you’ll get a great source of protein and fibre to keep you full.
