Reports have confirmed that Apple is indeed working on a self-driving car and is further along with Project Titan than had been previously thought. Official comments suggest that the company is looking for testing ground and is considering a secretive former naval base near San Francisco.
Apple has long been rumored to be building its car but no information has been released to the public until now.
The company’s Special Project group has reportedly met with GoMentum Station representatives about the possibility of using the 2,100-acre test area that has been previously used by companies, such as Mercedes Benz and Honda.
The documents show Apple engineer Frank Fearon telling the company that: “We would… like to get an understanding of timing and availability for the space, and how we would need to coordinate around other parties who would be using [it],”
Meanwhile, others believe that Apple may be working on technology with cars that may include something like CarPlay system or in-car infotainment systems that has the capability to bring the features of the iPhone to the vehicle’s dashboard.
Apple is said to be working with BMW and has hired its own automotive and battery experts.
