Ant and Dec are set to fly to Los Angeles in summer to work as producers on their American remake of their hit show Saturday Night Takeaway. Last year, they sold the rights for the show to US network NBC but chose not to front it themselves as presenters.
The show will air in August and will be hosted by Gone Girl star Neil Patrick Harris.
Ant and Dec previously tried to make it Hollywood. In 2008, they hosted a game show Wanna Bet? It flopped after six episodes because viewers apparently couldn’t understand their accents.
One source told the Daily Mirror of the duo's plans to become lucrative TV exec producers: “The boys know that if they hosted Saturday Night Takeaway in the US it wouldn’t work. They learnt their lesson before. But it’s their baby – they love it – and they are proud of the success it has had in the UK and they want to be involved.
“They can’t wait to get going on it and hope this is something they can do more of in the US. They want the show to take off.
“The boys’ input will be huge, but they are delighted Neil is hosting.”
In July 2008, Ant and Dec hosted Wanna Bet? on American channel ABC. Based on the German game show Wetten, dass..?, it featured four celebrities making bets on whether members of the public could complete outrageous stunts. It was axed due to poor ratings.
