Andrew Mitchell resigns from government

Weeks after Andrew Mitchell was accused of calling a police officer at Downing Street, he resigned his post as Government’s Chief Whip. However, the resignation did not come until he became a laughing stock among rookie MPs. 

 

Rookie MPs mocked the chief as he toured Commons team rooms looking to get support. Instead of smiles and handshakes, Andrew was ignored mostly during the event. Small groups of new MPs even sniggered him as he breezed in to Common tearooms. 

 

One Tory said, as quoted by The Sun: “He got the message in the end. There was laughter when he said a jovial ‘Hello’ to one member of our group and got his name wrong.” 

 

A close friend of Andrew is convinced that he can no longer do the job saying in the same report to The Sun: “He realised by Thursday that the game was up. He spoke to as many MPs as possible and reached the conclusion there were too many who didn’t support him, particularly among the 2010 intake. Andrew could no longer do the job.” 

 

Meanwhile, reportedly Labour MP Simon Danczuk demands Andrew Mitchell’s three month’s worth of his top-up salary to be given to a charity.
