There will be a sequel to the hugely popular film, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, it has been confirmed.
The film's star revealed the news during an appearance on the Conan O'Brien show in the States.
Ferrell was in character as anchorman and town hero Ron Burgundy, when he said:
"I actually have an announcement. I want to announce this to everyone here in the Americas, to our friends in Spain, Turkey and the UK - including England - that as of 0900 Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel to Anchorman.
"It is official! There will be a sequel to Anchorman. There will be a sequel."
According to Deadline, Adam McKay will return to write and direct, while Judd Apatow is set to produce the film.
Released back in 2004, Anchorman also featured Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Steve Carell as members of a news team in the 1970s, rocked by the addition of female journalist, Victoria Corningstone, played by Christina Applegate, to the ranks.
Production on the sequel is set for the end of this year, with the film scheduled for release in 2013, according to reports.
