The latest craze flooding the social media is an app that guesses your age from your selfie photos. Developed by Microsoft, this app lets users to post their photos and have the intelligent system analyse them, make guesswork of their gender and age.
Apparently, Microsoft is improving the app which is under development, so its guesswork is not right on the money. Thankfully so, for those who are assessed to be a few years older than your actual age. This app has got the Tweeples and the Facebook buzzing. Some of the funny guesses are the ones where a grandmother is assessed to be around 30 years of age, and the 12 year old kid is assessed to be about 40 years of age. More so, some unlucky people couldn’t bear the idea of themselves not existing in this world when the app refused to detect their faces.
Some people were a little cheeky to put their image processing skills to work. They’d use Photoshop to process their selfie photos- hide the wrinkles on the forehead, smooth out their skin, and do their sagging cheeks and puffy eye bags- to pull off that 10-years-younger look they have always dreamed of. It doesn’t sound too bad because they had great success of looking a lot younger than they actually do. A fantastic way to show off your image processing skills with a glowing how-old-photograph that your social circle would go gaga over, isn’t it?
Though there seems to be a good degree of science behind this app, Microsoft, the app maker, has seemingly noted that the app is not actually meant for detecting the age from photographs. Instead, it was used as a tool to measure how things become viral on the internet. As the app becomes a viral hit, you may head on over to http://how-old.net/ for your ‘Ah, pretty close’ moment.
