Adly Mansour, the top judge of Egypt’s Constitutional Court, is now Egypt’s interim leader. He took an oath as head of top court a day after the army ousted President Mohammed Morsi and put him under house arrest.
Mansour hailed massive demonstrations that led to Morsi’s ouster. He also praised the youth who were behind the protests and called them “the nation’s conscience, its ambitions, and hopes.”
"The most glorious thing about June 30 is that it brought together everyone without discrimination or division," he said. "I offer my greetings to the revolutionary people of Egypt."
It can be remembered that protesters gave ex-president Morsi until last Tuesday to step down. The army said he had “failed to meet the demands of the people.” After the 48-hour deadline and with opposition was met with no action by the president, the Egyptian army began its intervention solution on Wednesday night.
Egypt’s state-run press dubbed the army’s overthrow as a “legitimate revolution.”
The government-owned Al-Gomhuriya headline reads: “The people’s legitimacy was victorious.” Meanwhile the headline in government-owned newspaper, Al-Ahram read, “President ousted by revolutionary legitimacy.”
