Adele breaks record

According to The Official Charts Company, 21 by Adele has been named as the biggest-selling album in the world this year.

The record-breaking album has not left the album chart Top 10 since its release in January, spending 18 consecutive weeks at number one.

21 is 23-year-old starÂ’s second album and has sold over 3.4million copies, beating Amy WinehouseÂ’s existing record to become the UKÂ’s biggest selling female of the 21st century.

Adele is also the first female to have two albums and singles in the top five simultaneously.

At just 23, Adele has already won a huge 24 awards - including the first ‘critic’s choice award’- and just last week, she was nominated for six Grammy awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year.

On her official blog, she told her fans:

“This has been the best year as it is but to end 2011 with this incredible achievement and honour is beyond anything I can express.”
