Popular British actor Frank Thornton has died at the age of 92 it has emerged. The stars agent David Daly confirmed the news saying that Frank passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday.
Well-known for his role as Captain Peacock in the BBC comedy show Are You Being Served?, which lasted from 1972 to 1985, Frank also appeared in many other hit TV shows.
This included British sitcom Last Of The Summer Wine, written by Roy Clarke, which was first aired in 1973.
Frank’s agent Mr. Daly said: “I have been Frank's agent since 1986 and he has been the most wonderful client as well as being a great friend. He will be sorely missed.”
Other notable TV programmes the Englishman appeared in include Steptoe And Son. He also had roles in different films, in particular those from the 60s and 70s including No Sex Please, We're British.
The home-grown actor also starred alongside 73-year-old actor and funny man John Cleese, notably known for the hit TV show Faulty Towers, in the BBC’s “The Taming of the Shrew” over 30 years ago.
Aside from television, Frank was given roles for theatre shows, such as ‘Me & My Girl’ in 1984.
Frank, who was born in London on 15th January, 1921, leaves behind his wife, daughter and grandchildren.
