ABBA’s “Gold” album is UK’s all-time best selling CD

Based on records of Official Charts Company, ABBA’s great hits album “Gold” is the UK’s best-selling CD. To date, it has sold more than four million copies since it was launched 30 years ago. Based on reports, the sales were boost by the musical Mamma Mia!

 

The second place position in the Official Charts Company’s list was bagged by Adele’s phenomenal hit album, “21” having sold 3.5million copies. “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory” by Oasis ranked third at 3.4million.

 

Based on the research conducted by the same company – as reported by the BBC - CD is still the preferred format of music lovers these days. This in despite the fact of popularity of digital downloads. 

 

The company that represents the British recorded music industry, BPI, had its Chief Executive, Geoff Taylor, telling the BBC: “The CD represented a great leap forward in sound technology, becoming one of the most successful consumer products in history as music fans embraced its sound quality, durability, instant track access and ease of use.”

 

Based on a recent survey, UK artists dominated the charts bagging 21 spots out of the top 30. On the other hand, it is understood that Robbie Williams and Coldplay were the only two artists who made it to the charts with more than one album.

 

Coldplay’s “A Rush Of Blood to the Head” is at number 13, while their “X&Y” and “Parachutes” were numbered at 19 and 21, respectively.
