Actress Joanna Lumley has confirmed that comedy series Absolutely Fabulous is to return for a new series.
Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders are set to reprise their roles as Patsy and Edina for a three episode run, with filming scheduled for this summer.
Lumley told Hello magazine:
"In late August I start filming on three episodes of Absolutely Fabulous, which we are all ecstatic about."
She also revealed that Saunders, 52, who created the series, is yet to start on writing the script:
"Miss Saunders has been so busy writing Uptown Downstairs Abbey for Comic Relief and also Spice Girls: The Musical, I don't think she's started [the script]."
The successful series follows fad and fag-obsessed Patsy and Edina, who spend most of their time in their swish London home with Edina's daughter Saffie, played by Julia Sawalha, and her mother, played by June Whitfield.
It was first broadcast in 1992 and ran for three series and a two-part special until 1996. It returned for two more series between 2001 and 2004, with a special for Comic Relief in 2005.
The final episode of the comedy aired on Christmas Day 2004.
