Anyone knows that owning pets is a hefty responsibility. A lot goes into their care and nurturing. You take care of the food, toys, accessories, and special treats. Even more expensive and less appreciate by your favourite pet, are the trips to the vet.
Routine physical examinations as well as dental exams can cost quite a bit up front. If you’re looking for a little bit of help so you can be sure your pet keeps receiving the best care, there are a few lifestyle situations to consider while you shop around.
1Travelling frequency. If you don’t travel a lot or at all, you can ignore the travel coverage section since it will be of no use or benefit to you, though it may not be optional.
2Consider your health. If you have had some health issues recently, think seriously of the coverage options in the event that you are hospitalized. Do you have reliable people who can help care for your pet or will it need boarding?
3Purpose of pet. If your pet is used in part or entirely as a work animal this may change your available insurance options or your premium.
4Age of your pet. If your pet is older you may not be able to insure it, or premiums may be higher, and the type of coverage may also be limited.
5Health history of your pet. If your pet has had previous issues, know that signing up for a new plan won’t help with the bills for previous work. They may even refuse help for that condition in the future since it is a pre-existing condition. It’s still a good idea to get the insurance because poor health may indicate other issues the insurance does cover.
6Holidays with your pet. If you travel anywhere for holidays and bring your pet, pay special attention to sections on travel, holiday coverage, emergency procedures, and liability coverage. Look for extras that help with obtaining a health certificate and passport for your pet.
