NASA has claimed an unexplained object, which skygazers thought to be an "alien megastructure" orbiting a distant star may actually be a swarm of comets.
Astronomers have trained NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope on KIC 8462852, also known as Tabby's star. It baffled the scientists after its light dim in "dramatic, never-before-seen ways."
The observation has led other people to think that a massive structure has been built around the sun to harness its energy. NASA has since shot down the claims saying that it could be caused by a comet orbiting Tabby's Star, dragging debris along behind it.
Massimo Marengo of Iowa State University said: "We may not know yet what's going on around this star."
"But that's what makes it so interesting."
Astronomer Jason Wright from Penn State University was the first to spark speculations about an alien megastructure. He said: "Aliens should always be the very last hypothesis you consider, but this looked like something you would expect an alien civilization to build."
