A group of scientists have conducted a survey and found that 80s music is the most boring. They’ve reached the conclusion after analysing 17,000 tracks and the most popular singles going back to 1960. They also used Billboard’s hot 100 list.
Meanwhile, the survey found that 1964 was the best year for music, inspiring a musical revolution that enriched the styles of soul and rock, before spawning funk and disco.
Evolutionary biologist Mark Pagel from the University of Reading, commented on the result of the study and said: “The work is far and away the most comprehensive and sophisticated analysis yet of popular music.”
“Many commentators attempt to link eras of pop music to social and political changes, but this program doesn’t rely on preconceptions. Rather it allows patterns to emerge from [musical] data.”
