4G made available to limited UK cities through company EE

Eleven cities will be the first places in the UK to receive the latest version of mobile phone coverage 4G. The provider of the new service and products will be the company EE.

 

The hot spots for the debut of 4G, an upgrade of 3G which was launched in 2003, will be Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Sheffield and Southampton.

 

The technological move aims to provide customers with faster download speeds that are comparable to broadband, where internet services can be uninterrupted. It is understood that 4G consumers will now be able to benefit from much better streaming capabilities.

 

Reportedly, EE’s 4G will be available on mobile devices including some iPhones, HTC and Samsung devices. It is thought that EE hope to spread their services and products across the UK to other areas of the country in the next two years.

 

However, with the debut of 4G in the UK, its provider EE has received some criticisms.

 

Some critics have focused on the cost of group’s price plan. As reported by The Telegraph, EE’s packages start at £36 per month to £56 per month for a range of data from 500mb to 8GB.

 

And there has been controversy surrounding the body Ofcom (The Office of Communications) as EE is the unique provider of 4G in the UK, and its competitors are expected to provide 4G on their networks from early next year.

 

Other countries that already have 4G available to mobile phone customers are Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, and the US among others.
