Travelling in a new place can be fun and exciting, but it can also be a little bit nerve-wracking, especially when a trip doesn’t go as planned. If you lose important documents, suffer a delay, or theft, you may not even consider contacting your travel insurance company. They may not be able to cover everything, but it’s a good idea to check with them first.
Here are a few things some travel insurance companies may cover.
•Travel cancellations due to unexpected occurrences. This may even include delays. Make sure to check if your policy includes delays and cancellations when it is not caused by you.
•Lost baggage and personal belongings. Some companies are able to help you offset the cost of having to obtain items which were stolen or lost, though you may need to prove that your loss was not due to inattentiveness.
•Lost documents. If you have lost documents which are necessary for you to return from your travels, you may have help from your travel insurance company in either obtaining a legitimate copy of those documents.
•Medical expenses. If the unthinkable happens and someone in your holiday party suffers from a medical issue while travelling, contact your travel insurance company immediately. Depending upon the medical situation you may have coverage even if your regular health insurance company won’t cover the expenses.
Your best bet when something occurs, from damage to a rental vehicle to medical emergencies, is to contact your travel insurance company to find out the proper procedures to follow so that you are able to receive reimbursement or proper coverage.
It’s a good idea before you leave on your trip to find out what the exclusions are for your particular travel insurance policy.
