Contrary to what a PPI claims handler may tell you, reclaiming PPI is relatively easy; in fact, you can do it all by yourself. By going down this route you will not need to hand over say 30per cent of your refund to anyone else.
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Check your policy. The first step is to make sure that you were indeed mis-sold PPI.
If you’ve got or had a credit or store card, overdraft, or car finance for the last several years, you are more likely to have bought this insurance without your knowledge as the banks systematically sold them to thousands of borrowers.

3. Write to your lender. If you were indeed mis-sold PPI, the next step is to write a letter to your lender and ask for refund. You can also call them up to complain.
4. Contact the Ombudsman. If for some reasons, your lender refused to issue refund, your last step is to write a letter to the Ombudsman who will review your claim.
