Christina Edkins died after being stabbed while travelling on a bus

A man has been arrested following the death of school-girl Christina Edkinsm, aged 16. The youngster died after being stabbed while on a bus in Birmingham on Thursday morning.

The incident took place around 7.30am on Thursday, 7th March, while Christina was travelling to Leasowes High School, in Halesowen. It is believed the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Certain roads were closed at the time as a result of the tragic incident.

Following the stabbing, a large search operation was put in place. A 22-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of murdering the teenager.

It is thought the individual who carried out the attack may have already been on the bus prior to Christina boarding the vehicle.

A spokesperson from National Express West Midlands said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the person involved and we will offer all possible support to the police in their investigation into the matter.”

According to reports, police have said they will also look to social network sites when carrying out their investigation. This may be due to a comment that the teen posted on the social network site Twitter, which was supposedly published one week prior to her death.

She tweeted saying: “This man is worrying me on the bus keeps getting up and walking up and down stairs, and sitting in different place.”

However, police have reportedly stated that there is no evidence as of time of press to show that Christina was a target.

Halesowen lies to the West of Birmingham city centre, and is situated South of Dudley and West Bromwich. The borough is based in the West Midlands, close to Coventry, Leicester and Wolverhampton.
