(BANG) - A parent has paid £5,000 for Chris Martin to perform a private gig in his front room.

The unique prize went under the hammer as part of Canonbury Primary School's Auction Of Promises last night (18.05.06).

The Coldplay frontman was persuaded to offer his service by his business partner Paul Makin - who has a child at the North London school.

Head teacher Jay Henderson told Bang Showbiz on Friday (19.05.06): "The evening was a huge success we raised £43,000. I'm still smiling now."

The multi award-winning singer didn't make it down for the event and if he had he may have left with a bruised ego as his contribution failed to attract the highest bid.

A personal tour with Lord Adonis around the House of Lords went for £5,100, and the winning bidder was none other than controversial Islington resident Boris Johnson.

Mr Henderson added: "I think it was a bit of tongue-in-cheek bid." (C) BANG Media International
