£13million Robin Hood tourist attraction to be built in Sherwood Forest

Officials in Nottingham plan to celebrate the legend of Robin Hood by building a multi-million pound tourist attraction in Sherwood forest. It is thought the attraction will be called ‘Discover Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest’.

 

The tourist attraction, which is expected to be opened to public in 2015, is a 40-acre site and will include a medieval castle, a forest visitor center, a medieval-style castle, a jousting field, and an archery range, as reported by the BBC.

 

In addition, visitors can expect indoor and outdoor displays, street performers, and an open-air theatre to bring the legend, life, and times of Robin Hood and his band of merry men to life. 

 

The plan is expected to create 100 jobs and generate income to help the local economy. 

 

John Cottee, chairman of the culture committee at Nottinghamshire County Council, said, as quoted by the BBC: “This will put Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood's legendary home, back on the map.

 

“The county council is committed to raising the profile of Robin and Sherwood locally, nationally and internationally whilst at the same time protecting ancient Sherwood Forest for future generations.

 

“This exciting venture will also create and sustain jobs for Nottinghamshire people.”
