Hollywood La La Land has won every award it was nominated for breaking the record for the most Golden Globe Awards with seven prizes. Its stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling won in the acting categories.
Meanwhile, Casey Affleck wins best actor for Manchester By The Sea and the award for the best actress was given to French start Isabelle Huppert, who beat contenders including Natalie Portman.
The best supporting film actress went to Viola Davis for playing a woman in 1950s Pittsburgh in Fences, a role she first played on Broadway six years ago.
Accepting the award, Davis said: "It's not every day that Hollywood thinks of translating a play to screen - it doesn't scream 'moneymaker'. But it does scream art, and it does scream heart."
British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson took home the best supporting actor award for his role in Nocturnal Animals.
The event was hosted by Jimmy Fallon whose opening monologue was less risque than those of some of his predecessors. However, he still made a reference to Donald Trump when he joked that the Golden Globes ceremony was “one of the few places left where America still honours the popular vote.”
